The Zero-Carbon City initiative, held at Senai Cimatec on the 29th of April, showcased 5 selected startups to co-develop innovative businesses and solutions. The goal is to minimize the effects of gas and waste emissions impacting the environment, fostering a sustainable ecosystem. The proposals included three solutions aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from the waste-sector:: Biopolymer (TRL9), iBag, and Ocean Ride; and two software solutions: AquaG and Deep Monitor.
The Zero-Carbon City initiative received 103 applications from startups across Brazil focusing on sustainable solutions. Of these, 5 were selected to receive incentives and support for business expansion, with the backing of Senai Cimatec to co-develop their solutions and maximize their market entry. The selected startups were TRL9, Ecoloy, Ocean Ride, Deep Ambiente, and Green Tech Innovation.
The event, a partnership between Senai Cimatec and the Municipality of Salvador through the Secretariat of Sustainability, Resilience and Well-being and Animal Protection (SECIS) and Secretariat of Innovation and Technology (SEMIT), gathered around 500 people, including experts, researchers, civil society, and 150 representatives from startups and large companies. They discussed climate change and topics like technology for ESG practices, circular economy, smart cities, and decarbonization.
During the event, scientist and climatologist Carlos Nobre, a world-renowned expert on climate change, delivered the lecture “Climate Change and Sustainable Cities,” emphasizing the importance of the gathering. “You are looking to use advanced technologies and innovations for various aspects that Brazil needs, like neo-industrialization. We need sustainable industries that protect the environment, ecosystems, coastal areas, biodiversity, combat the climate emergency, and also protect all populations, especially the most vulnerable.”
